Hike : Pentlands
8th October 2006.
It was a cool but dry day as 17 boys & 3 staff met up at the toll to tackle their Grade 1 & 2 walks.
After we arrived at Ninemile Burn we had a safety check and talked about our proposed route then set off.
We headed up east kip then the steeper west kip before going onto scald law. We met a gentleman who was involved in organising a fell run that day so he asked us to be aware of 80 - 90 people running our way !
We stopped for lunch at the bottom of scald law out of the wind and we watched the fell runners go by,fit or what !!
After much chocolate it was onto carnethy hill followed finally by turnhouse.The descent from turnhouse was a bit sore on the knees but we managed it without any incident.
We reached flotterstone ranger station in good time and were able to use proper toilets !
After xmas we shall be doing more theory in the class followed by our practical cooking & camping in the spring. "
