Junior Section Display 6 June 2008

The Display and Presentation of awards was held on Friday 6 June in Lasswade High School, with Catherine Clark, Captain of the Girls Brigade in Dalkeith, as our Inspecting Officer. The night was very well attended by parents who enjoyed a varied programme of activities. There are various pictures from the night below. Click on the small images to enlarge them.

About the Junior Section

The Junior Section is the middle section of the three sections in the BB, and is for boys aged 8 to 10 years old (Primary's 4, 5, & 6). The boys are split in to their primary years for their activities, and are called Juniors, Inters, and Seniors.

The activities are more structured than the Anchor Section, but still with a mix of work and games. More work is needed by the boys as they earn their badges - more on that later !

More formal opening and closing services are part of the night, with the Raising and Lowering of the Flag important parts of the night. There are also inspections of the uniform, where points can be earned for the group and also towards the Best Boy trophy.

The flag is lowered in the closing service, with an officer looking on.

Badges

Similar to other youth organisations, the boys work for badges during the session. This gives them a goal to work for and something to show for their hard work during the year. To get the badges, the boys must complete simple (or not so simple for the older boys!) tasks called achievements.

The badges they work for depend on what year they are in, although boys who join later can catch up (with a little bit of hard work !). The badges are gained in order :

Target, Bronze, Silver, Gold

The highest badge the boys gain is also worn when the boys move up to the Company Section.

Juniors, Inters, & Seniors

As  mentioned above, the boys are split in to their primary years for their activities. These can be achievements for their badges, or games !

The games we play vary from races to football to basketball, with many others made up as we go along !!!

Junior Section Camp

We try go to "camp" every year for at least a weekend, usually a week. The venues range from church halls to outdoor education centres. We have visited Hawick, Perth and Grantshouse (sadly now closed) as well as a few other places.

Unfortunately, we are not allowed to camp "under canvas", but that keeps the comfort level up a bit !

Interested In Joining or Helping Us ?

Come along on on a Tuesday night to Hopefield Primary School in Bonnyrigg, and see what we do (see the Home page for details).

We are always keen for new boys to come along - and also for any interested adults to come along as well as helpers.

If you would like general information for your son or about becoming a helper, please use the Feedback Form or e-mail the Webmaster. Or if you would like Junior Section-specific information, use the e-mail link at the top of this page.
